Halfway through!

Lesson Three went very well...we now have  three of us working together to help you:  Dortha who  has been calling and helping plan the lessons, she is the President of the Classic City Square Dance Club...and now we have Alice who will also be calling and planning, she is the Vice-President of the club.    I'm the overall teacher, the big HEad!!, but alas my voice is very soft and husky and not good caller material!  But planning out the sequences takes a lot of time since we want to encourage the best long term learning we can...and I'm very glad to have the three of us working together on this.

We are down to 9 or 10 dancers, apart from two who signed up and we never saw once! the others had to drop out because of various family or health issues, all said they thoroughly enjoyed the dancing - which is good!  Our aim in introducing you  to this activity is
1. enjoyment,
2. exercise,
3. mental stimulation,
4. socialization,
5. physical contact!!
All are really good things to have!

In lesson 3, our 6 new moves were as follows:

15. Courtesy Turn
22. Right and Left Through
16. a and b of the Chain Family: Two Ladies Chain, or Four Ladies Chain
35. Box the Gnat
25. California Twirl
28. Square Through (usually called with a specific number indicating the number of turns - we did 5 turns.......)
The numbers given refer to the caller lab definitions - this is the official List of Modern Western Square dance moves - and I'll post a link below to a large pdf file with the definitions.  I strongly encourage you (magic w encouragement) to download this file and make flash cards of anything that we have covered.  Then test yourselves on the flash cards each day...this constant review is a really good way to learn something...not 5 tests in a row one hour per week!  but 5 minutes per day for 7 days will have a LOT more effect! Always make the flash cards in your own words that puts the information in your brain, rather than just copying or printing out - no brain involved!!!

Next week we are going to spend some time looking at one of the other formations in square dancing, viz the line!  You can do practically every move from a line...
.I look forward to seeing you there...please do let me know if you can't come and then I can try to get just the Right Number of angels....thank you!   Elizabeth
